LEAGUE RULES
1. TIME-OUTS:
Each team is granted 2 - 1 minute timeouts per half - unused timeouts do not carry over into the second half or into overtime.
Either players, coaches, or bench can call or signal the official or scorer’s table to administer a timeout
Live ball timeouts are permitted. After a timeout, the ball will be administered on the sideline closest to where the timeout was called.
1 Time-Out each team in over time period
Time-out between free throws are permitted
Last 2 mins of the game, if timeout is called on the court and live, inbound from the point of interruption.
If the time-out is called at a dead ball situation with under 2 mins to go in the second half, the team in control of the ball has the option to advance to their front court at 3 point extended. Shot clock will be set at 14 seconds if team chooses to advance the ball in their front court, otherwise 30 seconds in their backcourt.
2. FOULS AND PENALTY (BONUS):
Penalty (bonus) at 8 team fouls each half. 2 free throws are awarded. Under 2 minutes left to go in the game 2 intentional fouls will immediately award the team in control of the ball automatic 2 free throws.
Each player has a maximum of 5 fouls before being disqualified from play
Technical Fouls are 1 shot and the ball is administered at the point of interruption. Unsportsmanlike/Disqualifying Fouls are 2 shots, the shooting team regains possession, and the ball is administered in their front court 3-point extended.
MODIFIED LEAGUE TECHNICAL FOULS: As part of our league’s number one value Respect, Viet Hoops does not allow any disrespectful gestures or acts towards other players - which includes taunting, clapping, shouting, and/or poking in the groin area at a shooters shot attempt. Players who are caught in the action will receive an immediate technical foul without warning and the ball to be administered at the point of interruption.
If a player receives either 2 technical fouls or 2 unsportsmanlike foul (vise versa 1 technical or 1 unsportsmanlike foul) it will result in the player being disqualified from the game. The disqualified player will need to exit the facility immediately. IF A PLAYER CHOOSES NOT TO COOPERATE WITH THE VIET HOOPS STAFF/PERSONNEL (REFEREES) AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN TOLD TO LEAVE THE FACILITY A POLICE REPORT WILL BE FILED.
If a player accumulates 5 technical fouls over the course of preseason, regular season and playoffs they will be suspended the following game.
If a player accumulates 8 technical fouls they will be suspended for the remainder of the season.
3. GAME TIME:
Two 20 minute running time halves. No stop time during free throw attempts, only during timeouts, player injury or scorer’s table issues
Game clock will start regardless if teams are not ready. E.g. players and teams still choosing to warm up after the buzzer and whistle is beckoned for the start of the game, players not being full dressed, and starting 5 players from each team not reported on the court for the start of the game
30 second shot clock. Resets back to 30 when a team obtains a new possession and ball has legally entered in the opponents basket. Shot clock resets to 30 seconds when ball comes in contact with the opponent's rim and offensive team regains control. Shot clock does not reset if a team regains possession on a: out of bounds, foul, player injury occurs, or jump ball situation.
SPECIAL SITUATION: Under 2:00 minutes left to go in the second half on a dead ball possession, the team in control of ball has the option of advancing the ball in their front court with 14 seconds on the shot clock.
5 players must be present from each team to start the game. If 5 players are not present then the opposing team will be rewarded with 1 point with each passing minute up until halftime which will result in a default.
Stop time in last 2 mins in second half if points are within single digits (9 points and under)
4. SUBSTITUTION:
All players from the bench need to report and stand or kneel next to the scorer’s table in order for a substitution to be administered. NO HOCKEY SUBS (subbing directly from the bench)
On all dead ball situations and if a player injury occurs
In between free throw attempts are permitted. Before first free throw or after last free throw made is also permitted
SPECIAL SITUATION: If a player injury occurs during a shooting/unsportsmanlike foul and/or penalty situation and the injured player is rewarded free throw attempts. Injured player can either:
Shoot his free throw attempts then sub out immediately, and can return back to the game at the start of the next half/overtime
Have a substitute player from the bench shoot his free throws and the injured player cannot return back to the remainder game. Current players on the court cannot take the injured players free throw attempts
HARDSHIP/INJURY EXCEPTION: If a player on the current roster wishes no longer to participate for the remainder of the season due to either a : (1) season ending injury, personal matters, sickness, absence of leave, terminated from roster - a team is enabled to have a max of one substitute player to join their roster mid season with the exception of the approval of both Viet Hoops league owners. Substitute player must: attend at least one Viet Hoops pick up run and/or meet with league owners, follow all league policies, and pay remaining league fees. All teams must follow and comply with league player import rules (2 max per team).
5. OVERTIME:
2 minutes overtime. (Overtime starts with the team in favour of the possession arrow.)
1 time out granted for each team in overtime. Unused timeouts from previous half does not carry over
Stop time on every dead ball possession. E.g. scored baskets
If the game goes into a second overtime, first team to score a basket wins. Only applies in regular season.
6. VIOLATIONS:
Players move in before the shooter releases the ball
Ball does not hit the ring, shooter airballs the shot
Players outside the arc move in before the ball hits the ring
Once a team advances the ball in their front court they are not allowed to go back into their backcourt. This results in a backcourt violation
There is a offensive 3 seconds in the key violation but no defensive 3 second violation
Teams have 8 seconds to advance the ball into their front court. Failure to do so results in a turnover
7. PLAYOFFS:
Each player must first be registered on the team roster, play a minimum or show up to at least 3 games (All-Asian Division, 2 games for All-Viet Division) to be eligible for playoffs. If an ineligible player decides to play, it will lead to an automatic disqualification for the team.
DRAFT DIVISION
All players entered in this division will be pre accessed and ranked based on skill sets
All new players must attend a mandatory pre draft to be accessed and ranked
Draft order will be determined based on randomizer amongst captains and selections will be based on snake order format e.g. captain that selects last in the previous round will have first selection in the next round.
All league rules applies to this division except for import rule

League Policies
RESPECT everyone including people working scorer’s table, officials, and management- no exceptions
NO SWEARING - 0 tolerance for this behaviour in our league especially towards staff members working at scorer’s table, referees, management, fans and other players. Consequences will result in a minimum 1 game suspension, and/or dismissed up to the rest season, including playoffs, with no refund. ANY THREATS MADE TO ANY VIET HOOPS STAFF MEMBERS OR PERSONNEL (REFEREES) THE PLAYER WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY DISMISSED FROM THE LEAGUE WITH NO REFUND AND HAVING A POLICE REPORT FILED IN ACCORDANCE TO BEHAVIOUR
NO FIGHTING - If one or multiple players are involved in a fighting incident before, during or after a game, an investigation will take place amongst league owners. Consequences/penalties will be given out accordingly. Failure to comply in the fighting policy will result in either:
Official warning from the league. Second warning will result in a 1 game suspension and or up to the remainder of the season
An immediate 1 game suspension and or up to the remainder of the season with no refund
Permanent ban from the league with no refund
ALWAYS shake hands at the end of the game - No matter how competitive the game gets teams must line up and shake hands with each other and say good game. Failure to do so will result in consequences from the league
SHOW up on time for your games - 5 players on each respective team must be present and fully dressed to start the game. Game clock will start according to scheduled time and each passing minute will result in the opposing team receiving 1 point for each passing minute. Players have until half time to show up to the game before a forfeit occurs. If both teams do not have 5 players up until half time, it will result in a double forfeit.
JERSEYS with visible numbers and the same team color must be worn and tucked in at the start of each game. Taped and written numbers using permanent markers are not permitted. Consequences will result in the opposing team receiving 1 point for every player without a team jersey. ATTIRE EXCEPTION such as religious headbands, headwear, and scarves (ninja style headbands) are permitted
ALL JEWELRY AND WATCHES must all be removed before the start of each game. Example: earrings, necklaces, and bracelets. With exception for religious reasons/purposes only
ROSTER last week to make any roster modifications is the end of Week 5. In order for a player to be playoff eligible they will need to play or be present at three regular/preseason games.
IMPORT PLAYERS (NON-ASIAN): Each team is granted a maximum of two international/import players per team in All-Asian Division. International/Import players must be registered on the team roster and have participated in at least one open run session and/or assessed by both league owners John Hoang and Joseph Le prior.
ASIAN PLAYERS: Saturday All-Asian Division will only consist of players from East, South-East, and South Asia to be considered as a player of asian descent.
SPECIAL SITUATION: a player of non asian ethnicity who is of asian nationality can pass as an asian player e.g. caucasian individual born and raised in an asian country with asian nationality. Player must provide proof of nationality e.g. passport and/or birth certificate
